Changala Maram, also known as the Chain Tree, is a captivating site along the Calicut-Wayanad route, adorned with steel chains hanging from its branches. This tree is steeped in legend, revolving around Karinthandan, a tribal chief of the Paniya community during the late 18th century. He possessed unparalleled knowledge of the forest paths in Wayanad, aiding a British engineer in discovering a route through the dense wilderness.Tragically, after the engineer exploited Karinthandan’s expertise, he treacherously betrayed him, leading to Karinthandan’s untimely demise.
